On April 26, 2006, CONNSACS hosted its 4th Annual
"Break the Silence" Silent Auction & Reception at the Pond House Cafe, Elizabeth Park, West Hartford. The event, which commemorated April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, brought together community members and allies and raised money to further CONNSACS' mission to end sexual violence.
In addition to increasing awareness of our mission and services, the event also provided an opportunity for CONNSACS to honor victim/survivors of sexual violence and community members dedicated to ending sexual violence in our state.
On display was our "Connecticut Faces of Survival" exhibit, which does just that--honors victim/survivors of sexual violence who have chosen to "break the silence" and tell the story of their journey to survivor.

CONNSACS also honored the recipients of the Gail Burns-Smith "Dare to Dream" Fund award and the Marvin P. Lyon, Jr. Award. The Gail Burns-Smith Fund was developed to honor Gail and her dedication to sexual assault victims and their families upon her retirement as CONNSACS' Executive Director in June of 2004. The scholarship/stipend award, given annually, recognizes an individual dedicated to ending sexual violence in our communities and committed to continued work in the field.
The Marvin P. Lyon, Jr. Award was developed to honor CONNSACS' Treasurer, Marvin P. Lyon, Jr. who passed away in October 2004. The award, presented annually, honors a man with a demonstrated commitment of ending sexual violence and possessing Marvin's strength of character and dedication to sexual assault victims and their families.
